Business News (also formerly WA Business News) was established in 1993 and is now based in Perth, Western Australia. They offer a full-service online news service along with a range of print and broadcast media. The business news website was launched with a very small budget of $500k. It quickly became one of the most visited online business news sites in Australia and was soon out ranking many of the major news sites such as The Australian and Business Online. WA Business News is also one of the first web sites to include videos and podcasts. In 2021, they developed their first mobile application, which launched the concept of ‘Mobility’ into the Australian Market.
Over the past few years they have been testing a new concept with augmented reality applications. This concept uses a combination of traditional PC based augmented reality technology along with the computer vision experience popularized by Apple and Nokia. The software allows businesses to capture real time data feeds from their current location and as well as the location of potential customers or clients. Once captured, the information is sent to the computers of those in the field using an internet connection.
As well as providing news and information to both large and small businesses, this company also collaborates with the United Nations, US military, City of Sydney, Australia, World Wildlife Fund, The Commonwealth Bank of Australia and Price water house Coopers. In the future this company looks to provide much more of the same services. As part of their mission to bring augmented reality to the market they are also beta-testing a new platform that will allow the public to place food products in virtual stores. Business News is not the only company currently working on augmented reality applications. Other companies such as IBM have created an entirely different system called Opacity and are aiming to offer a completely interactive 3D map to help consumers find their way around town.
