When we hear about successful people, most of us have a tendency to feel positive about ourselves. This is because most of these people have gone through what we call the ‘perfect’ situation. But what if you were born in a world that had little or nothing to be proud of? What if you were thrown into a life-threatening situation and yet you still persevered? Or what if you were forced to work in an environment that would test your morals and would force you into situations that will challenge and improve you?
If your answer to this question is ‘No’, you should understand that the concept of success stories is more than just an idea. True success stories are not stories where someone went through something that was difficult and painful but emerged victorious. True success stories are stories that show how someone overcame obstacles and developed resilience. They are not just accounts of good luck. Success stories are accounts of the cumulative effect of the person’s consistent effort over a long period of time to achieve some objective or target.
It is our human nature to want to know how we can achieve something. So why don’t we ask ourselves, what has it been about in our lives that have contributed to us becoming what we are today? What are the traits, the attributes that made us who we are? And why don’t we take the time to examine those attributes and to develop them? Failure to do so will leave us with tales of triumphs and with a false sense of immortality because we have convinced ourselves that there is little room for improvement in our lives.
